Financial Aid Special and Unusual Circumstances

Ìý

Sometimes the information provided on the FAFSA is not an accurate picture of the student’s current resources or ability to pay for college because of what Federal Student Aid refers to asÌýSpecial CircumstancesÌýand/orÌýUnusual Circumstances.
Ìý
  • Special Circumstances include changes in financial situations. Examples include (but are not limited to) loss or reduction in employment; student/parent becomes divorced, separated, or widowed; or one time increase in income due to IRA distribution, pension withdrawal, or something similar.
  • Unusual Circumstances include student situations that justify a financial aid administrator making an adjustment to the student’s dependency status such as (but not limited to) parental abuse or abandonment, being an unaccompanied homeless youth, being a victim of human trafficking.
Please contact the Financial Aid Office to determine if your circumstances might warrant a review of your situation.ÌýYou will be asked to provide written documentation with your request.
